5 Tips for making the most of your photo session
Stay away from bright colors and busy patterns. I typically recommend sticking with earth-tones or neutrals because they always photograph well. We want to keep the focus on you and your beautiful face! If you’re having pictures done in a group setting with your family or others, it’s important to make sure that you all wears colors that compliment each other. Pinterest and Google are great resources to help you find a color scheme or palette that best fits your style!
Let the kids just be kids. When parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. try to tell their little ones to calm down, smile on command, or pose with the sister who just stole their toy, the smiles often turn out inauthentic. This can also lead to a meltdown more often than not. When you look at those pictures later on, you’ll just remember how much of a headache it was to get that “perfect” shot. The key to taking pictures with kids is always patience…oh, and lots of snacks ;)
Share the spotlight. It’s important to take pictures of each child alone. This way, they can have their own moment to shine, pose, and smile however they please. This goes for the adults, too. Make sure that at some point during family photos or group photos, you get the portrait or couples’ photos that you want!
For personal branding shoots - bring your mobile workspace with you! Bring your laptop, notebook, planner, or that special coffee mug that you use everyday. We’re trying to tell the story of you and your growing business. It’s important to be as authentic as possible!
For goodness sakes, STOP LOOKING AT THE CAMERA! This last one might throw some people a bit, but just hear me out. I know we all expect pictures of everybody smiling at the camera, or maybe holding some cheesy props, doing goofy prom poses, but that’s not what I’m about. When you look back at your album, I want you to think about the emotion behind what was happening in the picture - maybe that’s the love between you and your new fiancé, the empowerment you felt starting your own business, or the happiness you felt holding your newborn. Stay in the moment, relax, and enjoy your time, I’ll be there to catch all of the little moments throughout our time together!
